Our Belief

  • We believe in the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit as one true God. We also believe that salvation is only through Jesus Christ who is the only Way, the Truth, and the Life.

  • We believe in the infallibility and inerrancy of the scriptures as originally given by (verbal) inspiration of God in both Old and New Testaments. We also believe that it is the sole and final authority on all matters of faith, life and every area it touches. We are opposed to religious error that holds people captive against their freedom in Christ. However, although tradition, creeds and councils do not rule our interpretation of scripture, it does guide it. If, upon reading a particular passage, we come up with an interpretation that has escaped the notice of every other Christian for two thousand years, or has been championed by universally recognized heretics, chances are pretty good that we had better abandon our interpretation.

  • We believe in a literal eternal Heaven and Hell. Heaven is for the blood cleansed, born again saints of God; and Hell is for those who are unsaved who reject Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour.

  • We believe that every believer today is the true Church of Christ's body and bride, and we also believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ, no matter the Christian denomination or other label.

  • We believe that each believer is given a spiritual enablement by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and given a capacity for specific service in the church. No believer is destitute of such gifts. For by one Spirit we are baptized into one body.

  • The issue over tongues, healing and the five-fold ministry gifts of the church are only in the power and the control of the Holy Spirit. It is our responsibility to judge the working of the Spirit with prayerful discernment by walking in the gift that God has given us. We agree that it is the chief end of man to worship God and to enjoy Him forever. This is accomplished in many diverse ways.

  • Our only creed is the Bible and Jesus Christ, and we do not believe that creeds or confessions of faith are equal in authority with scripture. We also accept the reformed position within the Restoration Movement, and also doctrines of the Armenian Faith.

  •  ECC England  believes that the earth is the Lord's and it is the responsibility and the purpose of every Christian and non-Christian to clean up the environment within their communities in the British region and in all nations around the world. We also believe that the events taking place with the weather around the world is according to end-time prophecy.

  • The three creative acts of God are recorded in Genesis: the heavens and the earth; animal life; human life. The 6-day creative act refers to the dateless past, and gives scope for all the geologic ages, and we believe in the fall of man in sin as opposed to evolution or Darwinism.

  • ECC England  does not expect their ministers to follow a certain dress code or a certain way of worshiping God. Each minister may dress as they deem fit for services to the people and God and in accordance with their own background or credentials with other denominations. We do not have a set liturgy, a certain mode of preaching or practices in keeping with certain feast days. We do not indicate what Bible translation our ministers must read and preach from. We celebrate freedom and diversity of praise, worship, ministry and race which are accepted within The Evangelical Christian Church in England.

  • ECC England  does not believe in denominational walls that separate believers in the Spirit of Christian unity. We believe that all Christians are one in the body of Christ. We also enjoy fellowship together within all Christian denominations, and all Christians in the love of Christ.  Jesus prayed that we should all be one and it is our vision to make it so.

  • We believe that baptism is one of two ordinances enjoined upon believers by the Lord Jesus Christ. We baptize in name of the Father, and Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • The Lord's Supper: We believe that this is the most blessed bond between the body of believers and the risen Lord, and between one another, as it is experienced in the sacrament of Communion.

  •  ECC England  believes in the biblical principle of stewardship as commanded and practiced by Christ.

  • We believe in the finished work of the cross, (that the Christian is highly favoured, greatly blessed and deeply loved), and the blood of Jesus cleanses all believers from sin.

  • ECC England does not believe nor support in those churches or denominations that are seeking to unite as a One World Religion. For example, a joining together of faiths of Christian Catholicism, Christian Protestantism, Islam, the New Age movement, Buddhism, Hinduism or other beliefs or indeed some other form of religion not even invented yet to form this One World Religion.  We stand on the biblical statement that Jesus Christ is the only Way, the Truth and the Life. No-one comes to God the Father except through Him.

  • We believe in Christian Marriage which our Scripture tells us is a lifelong covenant relationship between one MAN and one WOMAN to the exclusion of all others. We support this concept of marriage albeit that the world outside of our Christian belief may be in opposition to this. We show tolerance and acceptance of difference to those outside of our church, but for those inside, we believe that it is a lifetime relationship  and commitment between those of opposite sexes in the eyes of God. We believe in the covenant faithfulness of each man and woman joined in marriage before Jesus Christ.  The family is to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care for its members as it enables them to serve God, groups of people, and creation. We acknowledge and affirm that the Family is the foundation to British society.  However, where marriage breakdown does occur, we are non-judgemental in that we believe in supporting those involved to come to repentance, forgiveness and newness of Christian life either together or individually.

  • ECC England will always submit to the authorities set in Government by God, but inside the Church we hold to the Christian view contained in scripture and therefore in the Evangelical Christian Church, we do not bless same-sex unions of any kind as we believe that our Scripture states that the orientation of homosexual behaviour is "inconsistent with our New Testament Christianity belief". We show tolerance and acceptance of difference to those outside of our church as commanded by law and the authorities put there by God and understand that secular opinion and behaviour operates outside of our belief. However, we will always regard those who do not know the Gospel of Christ as people who in our view need to find salvation and a righteous path back to God. We are all sinners and we all fall short of the Glory of God,  but by His word and help, we can constantly transform our lives into being more acceptable to God as we strive to be righteous before Him attaining to that joy and peace of knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. We do understand that many people struggle and battle with sexual identity and other certain sexual behaviours which are not compatible with the Christian faith as stated in the Bible for whatever reasons, past or present. Therefore, by offering non-judgemental Christian love , guidance, help, and understanding to all those who want to deal with this or other sexual sin in their lives and who wish to be followers of the Way; we believe that God through revelation of the scripture and the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit can fully transform any person's life and deliver them from all stated biblical sexual malpractices that they believe may be holding them in chains.

  • ECC England  holds to the view that sex before marriage or regular fornication among single couples is not conducive to good personal moral behaviour and indeed, for some, it can be very damaging to their lives and lasting relationships. We therefore support chastity and purity in all relationships outside of the marriage bond and commitment to each other within that bond.

  • We believe that Abortion is the murder of innocent babies created before God and which must not be used as a form of birth control.  We oppose abortion except in rare pregnancies where the life of the mother is at risk either physically or mentally, but only after Godly counsel and informed, signed medical documentation. We encourage all people to raise their voices against the growth of on- demand abortion or the euthanasia of sick, elderly or infirm people.

  • We are an historic anti-slavery group that feels that many groups of people are still experiencing slavery around the world. We continue to show our opposition against any treatment that shackles many in the sex trade and that holds people captive against their wills.

  • Poverty and Homelessness are complex issues that defy a single, simple solution. Amongst other issues, homelessness and poverty include family breakdown and violence, unemployment, recent immigration, release from prison, substance abuse and addiction, mental and physical illness and shortage of affordable housing. As a Christian Church we are guided by Micah 6:8 " He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.(NIV)".  We will bring the love and peace of God into whatever situation we are involved with and look towards speaking healing into people with individual spiritual growth, renewal and discipleship.

  • We recognize that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and it should be treated with great respect. We are opposed to the illegal production, sale, purchase and abuse of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, narcotics, and other harmful drugs; including the abuse of prescription drugs. We believe that people can seek and find freedom from these vices without being controlled by them.  However, we do understand that in the case of drinking alcohol or smoking, it should always be in moderation.

  • We do not support war, but understand the necessity sometimes to come against real evil when it presents itself. We strive and support in every means to find peace among all nations of the world and common enemies. We do not accept military involvement in a country unless it is for peacekeeping assignments, to prevent mass genocide or a country or countries are threatened by a common enemy seeking domination.  We support Her Majesty's Armed Forces, Police and Fire Services and all other Emergency Services, uniformed or otherwise.  Our Ordained Ministers  can and do serve as Military, Cadet and Veteran's Chaplains.

  • ECC England  believes strongly in role equality and diversity in the Church and accepts women in ministry. We believe that the call of God is upon all those who hear and respond to it. We support men and women in all areas and positions in ministry.
